6. IFC SETTINGS AND EXPORT

A. Configure the IFC export

  • Load Model View Definition via the FILE>EXPORT>IFC menu, select the file or files according to :
    • desired format (IFC2X3, IFC4)
    • composite walls or decomposed walls
    • File IFC2X3/4 CRTIB composite/decomposed walls.JSON «configuration files»
  • The tab options are already selected as needed.
  • INFO :
    • Export Revit property sets: this option is disabled because we only want the property sets defined in the GIDs and included in the configuration files;
    • Export IFC common property sets: this option is disabled because some unwanted properties are exported by Revit, but all properties in the GID sheets are included in the mapping file that will be loaded later in this page.
    • Export base quantities : option checked because the base quantities are requested in the GID.
    • Export schedules as property sets + sub-option: unchecked because all properties in the GID sheets are included in the mapping file that will be loaded later in this page.
    • Export user defined property sets: this is where we load the configuration file provided for the IFC mapping.
    • Export parameter mapping table: this option is not useful since all the properties in the GID records are included in the mapping file that will be loaded later in this page.
  • Complete the window for the classification as shown below. Please note that the variable to be indicated in the field: “Classification field name” must be capitalized.
  • Load the mapping file corresponding to :
    • the current phase of the project xx-xxx (01-APS, 02-APD…) the discipline (architect, structure, MEP) the desired format (IFC 2X3, IFC4)

B. generate the IFC

  • Select the name of the file to export and the destination folder

INFO :

  • If you do not start the export at this stage, the configuration will not be saved
  • If a property does not have a value defined in Revit, neither the property nor its value will appear in the IFC. It is therefore necessary to check that all values are completed before exporting. We recommend the use of BOMs by object type to quickly check that nothing is missing.
  • If a property has a value in Revit but is not mapped in IFC (e.g. we are in APS and you have already defined the requested value in SOU), then this property will not appear in IFC. This allows you to export in IFC only the properties expected for the current phase, without having to delete the information in the native model required in later phases.
  • It happens that some walls containing doors do not appear in some IFC viewers, especially with versions prior to REVIT 2020. It is recommended to check in another viewer (for example BIMcollab ZOOM free) if the problem occurs too.#
