Introduction

This module is part of a complete training cycle covering all aspects of Building Information Modeling, from the basics to tools for the BIM Manager, including training for the BIM Coordinator.

Information: this training is fully included in the BIM Coordinator module.

Objectives

The aim of the course is to analyze and understand the practical interoperability problems associated with the IFC format, with a view to resolving or avoiding them. To achieve this, participants will learn how to read the contents of an IFC file in a text editor, after acquiring a basic understanding of the structure and operation of IFC files.

Program

The challenges of the IFC format :

  • software implementation
  • IFC certification process

Read an IFC file (in text format) :

  • IFC file and structure (continuation of BIM Referent training)
  • use of buildingSmart websites related to IFC
  • utilities for reading and analyzing IFCs

The main BIM themes from an IFC perspective – best practices and exercises:

  • the spatial structure of a project
  • positioning / georeferencing
  • geometry (explanation of the basics of 3D representation)
  • extraction of various quantities and information
  • model retrieval (Design Transfer)

Practical workshop – study of real-life examples :

  • participants are free to bring their own problematic IFC files
  • these IFC files will be analyzed during training to understand how to identify sources of error and find potential solutions

Duration – 2 days, 12h

Prerequisites

or

  • have completed the BIM – Referent training course (IFC structure)

or

  • have taken the modeling tools training course – BIM exchanges and methods
